Jake Paul: The Man That Killed Boxing

It's no secret that boxing has had a spotted past, but when people look back at the history of this once beloved sport, many will remember this moment as its darkest hour.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Jake Paul and former heavyweight titan, Mike Tyson, have verbally agreed to a £36 million super-fight deal, that will take place in Las Vegas sometime this year. With a 31-year age gap separating the two fighters, it's safe to say that this matchup has come straight from the glorious minds that brought us Rocky Balboa, the 2006 rotten tomato of a film that brought the Rocky franchise crumbling to the ground. Unfortunately, I fear boxing is going to come to a very similar demise.

Back when Jake Paul first burst onto the pro-boxing scene, many people saw the same thing I did. A 22-year-old kid with a big mouth and social media following. Nevertheless, one unconscious retired basketball player later and suddenly Jake Paul was the next big name in boxing, appearing next to the likes of legitimate and full-time athletes.

Fast forward to 2022, and not only has this loudmouth kid continued to flourish, but the world around him has enabled him to. Jake Paul has trash-talked and bought his way to five professional victories, all of which can be easily proven as rigged fights. Nevertheless, these fights don't really bother me. Other than waking up the next morning with a black eye, fighting Jake Paul has been a brilliant investment for older or retired fighters who want one last paycheck before sailing into the sunset. However, with the announcement of Jake Paul's latest fight, something way bigger than a paycheck has just been put on the line.

Legacy.

There is no question that in the 1990s, Mike Tyson was the scariest man on the planet (a mantle he is still in contention for today). In a career that spanned over 58 professional fights, Tyson won 50, 44 by way of knockout, and only recorded 6 losses. From this grew a legacy of greatness for which he will always be remembered as one of the greatest boxers to ever step foot on the canvas.

That is until he loses to Jake Paul.

I know what you're thinking. No. Surely not? There's no way Mike will let that happen? Sadly, it's a road of realisation that we're all heading down together, and there is only one thing to blame. MONEY.

Despite and long and successful boxing career, Mike Tyson is one broke a** millionaire and a check for £36 million to fight a non-fighter is some pretty low hanging fruit. Unfortunately, Jake Paul has also taken the place of Conor McGregor has "the money fight" in all combat sports, meaning no matter who appears on the card next to him, the world is going to watch regardless (even if it is just to laugh). Furthermore, Paul also has an image to uphold, and a loss to a 55-year-old would probably demote him back to the cesspools of Youtube and TikTok.

Therefore, it's almost certain that no matter how many videos go viral of Tyson knocking out sparring partners, be prepared for this once great legend to go down like a sack of s**t as soon as he and his dancing partner have put on a nice show.

So, just remember, as Jake Paul winds up to deliver that final blow, not only will he be killing the legacy of a boxing legend, but he will also be signing the death warrant of the sport itself.

Hot Take: Haas Are The Ones To Watch in 2022

Haas has become a diminishing entity in the world of Formula One for several seasons now. Debuting in 2018, the US-owned Haas has gone from top 4 contenders, to back of the pack scrappers, all in the space of 3 seasons. However, heading in 2021, Haas team principal Guenther Steiner decided to make no significant car developments and instead pool all available resources into 2022. Is it a touch of genius or does it mark the final nail in the coffin?  2022 signals a breath of fresh air for Haas and Guenther Steiner. Not only do the upcoming regulation changes promise to bring more dramatic racing back to Formula One, but could also significantly reshuffle the F1 food chain. So, whilst teams such as Mercedes and Red Bull continue to develop this year's car in their hopes to make their drivers world champions, Haas could have the capability to make a shock return to the top in 2022.  Romain Grosjean driving the VF-20 during the pre-season tests in Barcelona - Wikimedia Commons As ...

Opinion: Familiarity and Consistency Will Win Arsenal A Premier League Title In 2022

Success is a weird thing for Arsenal fans. Three consecutive wins against some fairly shite teams and all of a sudden we think it's 2004. However, 2022 could be the year that a big bank account and a team straight out of FIFA fall short against familiarity and a consistent brand of confident football.   I'll be the first to admit that I never expect anything special when a red and white shirt steps on a football pitch. Luckily, a team in Manchester has filled that void nicely and allowed the Gunners to get off to their best start in recent memory.  A solid performance that gradually got worse was enough to see off Crystal Palace in the season opener, but a new brand of confident football against Leicester and Bournemouth has sent Arsenal to the top of the table. With 35 games still to play, most football fans would be pretty confident in saying that the only way is down for Mikel Arteta's men - and I'd tend to agree. However, this year, there is something different.  Th...

Football's Team of The Year - 2020

Without question, 2020 has produced one of the strangest, yet entertaining years of world football. Liverpool won the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years, Bayern Munich marched through the Champions League unbeaten, and new contenders to the Ballon\"dor blossomed in the form of Robert Lewandoski and Erling Haaland. In fact, there were so many incredible individual and team successes in 2020, it made picking a "Team of the Year" almost impossible. Although you may not agree with my choices initially, each of the players on this list has undoubtedly performed in two key areas: a major contribution to team success or incredible individual achievements.   GK - Manuel Neuer  The German legend once again proved that despite his absence from the top of European football since 2013, he is undoubtedly one of the most capable keepers on the planet. Putting in major performances in both the Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns with 21 clean sheets in 44 appeara...
